Even as it spends most of its time working on BB10 devices (and evaluating whether to sell itself), BlackBerry is still developing products based on its older operating system.
On Tuesday, the company introduced the BlackBerry 9720, an entry-level smartphone based on an update to the BlackBerry 7 operating system. Version 7.1 adds a few updates, such as the ability to take pictures from the lockscreen, but it’s largely the same classic BlackBerry software.
On the hardware side, the 9720 has a rather tiny 2.8-inch touchscreen, along with a hardware keyboard, five-megapixel camera, an FM radio and 512 megabytes of storage.
The phone will go on sale in the coming weeks, in a variety of markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia.
